The star of Love Island paid tribute to his deceased friend during this week’s Dedication week. The famous dancing show’s dedication week began on Sunday night, and the Love Island star said that he would be devoting his performance to his friend Ryan Freeman, who died at the age of 27. He performed on ‘See you Again’ by Charlie Puth and teared up by the end of his performance.
Who was Ryan Freeman?
Matthew told the judges that Ryan Freeman was his lifelong friend who passed away last year. He could not attend the funeral of his dear friend as he was at the point of entering the love island and was quarantined. He has regretted this deeply since then and has taken therapy and counseling to come to terms with this harsh fact of life. “We had a really close-knit group of friends and had an amazing time.”, he said. “And I’m so grateful that I’ve got all those photos and those memories to look back on.” He further added, “He had such a light and all the memories that we had together were amazing. So, I can look back at them and they’re still alive for me. He had an incredibly difficult life, but he was always the happiest person. So, he showed me life is short, enjoy it, and embrace it and I feel like he has impacted my life so much I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for him.” Ryan was a very dear friend to Matthew and his death affected Matthew deeply.
How did Ryan Die?
According to Ryan’s family, he passed away in a diving accident back in 2021. Ryan Freeman’s death affected his friends and family very badly and they were not able to process it for a while. Even Matthew said after the performance, “He died when I was in Love Island quarantine in Spain, so I had no funeral or nothing. So that was an ode to him that was my thank you for the impact he had on my life.” Ryan Freeman was caught in a diving accident and died on 11 July 2021. He was loved by his family and friends and the tribute to Ryan by Matthew was something that helped Matthew move on too.
